HER VINYL

The 90s Flow: Gender, Body & Fashion in Hip Hop

“Her Vinyl” is a fashion journal that explores how women in 90s hip hop used style as a form of power, resistance, and identity. Each chapter is built around a track from that era — styled photoshoots inspired by the song’s message and visuals, reinterpreted from a 2025 lens.

The cover is inspired by vinyl records cover

Women in Hip Hop had to walk a fine line. If they dressed too feminine, they risked being seen as just eye candy. If they looked too tough, they had to fight to be taken seriously. From the 1980s to the early 2000s, they balanced style and strength, proving their talent on stage, behind the turntables, and in the industry. Their fashion told the story: Baggy jeans. Finger waves. Furs. Diamonds.
